Exciting news! My next book is due out in December with WhiteFire Publishing. It is another middle grade novel, aimed especially at girls ages 8-13. I am very excited because this is an updated version of the first book I ever wrote, many years ago. It has been revised—and will almost certainly be revised more before publication—but it is the firstborn of my books. Although the plot is pure fiction, the setting is the woods behind my childhood home in southeast Portland, now a part of the Springwater Corridor. A place where I learned to appreciate nature and love the birds and flowers of this special place. (Actually my very first publication—earning me $5—was a piece I wrote about this woods in sixth grade.)
The main character is a twelve-year-old girl, for whom these woods are a much-loved retreat from her parents’ constant arguments. However, she comes upon two boys bringing harm to “her” woods and a feud is born. Can she protect the woods and bring her parents back together? And what lessons does she need to learn?
